Colorado.....Spectacular

After leaving Dinosaurland in Utah, I headed into Colorado today.  Steamboat Springs is on the agenda.

This is a view that may cause alarm when driving an RV...

It looked a lot worse approaching the hill.....just think about when I cross the great divide.  I have the Rockies all around and I look forward to seeing Cathy, Jamie, Judy and the whole family, including Bryan and Heidi in Parker, CO.

Gnomey is cooling off after a long day of being a passenger, while I drive and he does nothing.  Lazy. He is a quiet and cooperative passenger though...I'll give him that.

More tomorrow,

Beautiful, Scenic Utah

Wow.....beautiful state.  Snow-capped mountains, streams, rivers, gorgeous lakes and lots of trees.  Some rock formations remind me of Sendona, Arizona.

Gnomey finally pulled himself together long enough to ask me if we could go to "Dinosaur National Monument" near here.  When I explained what may happen, he didn't believe me.  Now he does. Run, Gnomey, run!

After our narrow escape from several species of dinosaurs, Gnomey and I shall continue our journey.

Tour of SLC.....and a bit of Holland

I went on a nice 4-hour tour of Salt Lake City today.  The tour guide/bus driver was pretty cheesy and had a lot of bad jokes, but he was very funny.

This is a bank in downtown Salt Lake City where part of the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed. OMG Robert Redford was in there!  I suppose I could go find him...he only lives in Park City.  See you soon Bob... Love, your stalker.  Ha ha

 Olympic Village

This is the inside of the Mormon Tabernacle. Amazing.  Frank Lloyd Wright's opinion is that this building has the best acoustics in the world. The music was amazing and a woman in front ripped a piece of newspaper, dropped three straight pins and a small nail and you could hear it all......from anywhere in the entire room.

Lion House, Brigham Young's home.  17 wives and 56 children.  (It is bigger in the back and the dining room seats 80 or so....really.)

This is Richard, Boot and Leo.  They are from Holland and were my travel companions on the tour and their RV is parked next to mine.  Gnomey suggested we bring wine, fruit and crackers over so we could have a chat with our new friends.  I agreed.  What a lovely visit and I am so happy to have met them. Look what Leo gave to me.  Real Dutch towel and I was so happy to receive it.  How sweet of them.
Gnomey....get up and behave!

Tomorrow, I will hit the open road.

Hey, Gail and Leo are headed this way on their journey to Kansas.  They will be visiting Gail's Sister Sandy.

Take care,

Salt Lake City Today and Tomorrow

This is where I started out today....Wendover, Nevada - inches away from the Utah border.

Here are the Bonneville Salt Flats, where they determine land speed records.  You can test your own land speed record on the highway via the signs that check the accuracy of your speedometer.

First stop at the Salt Lake City Art Festival.....the local beer.

This is a very nice woman I met named Karen.  She is originally from Long Island, NY.  She was my nice companion for the day.

A fun art festival....this man is playing a "Chapman Stick."  It is a 12-string instrument and the musician taps on the fret causing string vibration.  It was so amazing.  Here's the info if you want to check it out....  bob@stickmusic.com

Here is a piece of art I bought today.  It called to me and I went right to it.  It certainly depicts my "flight" as I take off on this journey.  The artist's name is Sondra Wampler.

Tomorrow, a tour of SLC and Sunday the Mormon Tabernacle to hear the choir sing.  Now doesn't that complete the SLC experience?

Take care and more tomorrow.

Nevada Covered

What a great visit with Mike and Kim.  Left to head across Nevada.  Now heading to national parks and tourist fun.

Here is a pic of a rainbow today.....this is on 80 near a place called "Ola".

Here is the card that says it all.....

I love that card and the sender.

I am enjoying this trip and I am looking forward to my next adventure.

Fun with Family

I am having so much fun tonight.....I love my brother Mike and my niece Kimberly.  We had a great BBQ dinner, fun talks, memories and many jokes and stories. Kim helped me finish organizing the RV.

Heading toward Utah tomorrow.

The Magic Bus

Well, I promised a picture of what Anne made for me.  She made this during the party on Saturday. She is amazing. Notice my excitement as I head down the road with "winey" as my passenger.  She is quiet and provides comfort at the end of the day.  Ha ha!  All my other passengers are my friends and family at the party.

Having a great time with family.  My niece Kim and I went to dinner and shopping last night.  Tomorrow we will have a barbeque here at my campsite.  Heading out on Thursday morning for the next part of the adventure.

Take care everyone,

On the Road with Gypsy

Well, folks.....I left on my big RV adventure this morning.  I am in the Reno/Tahoe area.  I will get to see my brother Mike and his daughter Kim and hopefully his son Mark, and friends Cliff and Ava.  I called my ROP friend Jorja today and she gave me Ginny's number, who lives in Reno.  I will probably get to see her tomorrow. Sweet.

Preparation for the trip would not have been possible without the help of my Pleasanton neighbors Mary (car, mail and a lot of support) and her friends across the street.  Across the street from Mary there lives Madeline and Emily.....two very sweet young girls that helped me clean out the entire RV and reorganize everything in it. I fell in love with both of them.  I was so relieved to know that I could fit and store everything properly.  Their mom and dad, Lisa and David, allowed me to park the RV in front of their home for a few days so I could get the RV ready to roll.  Lisa made dinner for me and the girls on Friday evening....salmon, wonderful rice and broccoli.  She gave me a nice bottle of wine to take with me. Thank you Lisa, you ROCK!  I also learned how to play Bunco with Mary and friends....look out all of you Bunco players.....I am ready for more.
Best Helpers Ever!!!!

Now, the party last night!!!   Wow....I have the best friends in the world. I received a lot of great gifts (some still unopened....anti...ci...pa...tion, DVD's, CD's, wine, etc.  Marta downloaded several movies onto my external hard drive. Anne hosted the party at her home and also agreed to store some of my things that I could not fit into my storage unit.  Anne, you are an angel.  Wait there's more....she is an amazing artist and made something really cool!  It is a brick painted white and she made it look like my RV.  She took photos of everyone at the party, make them tiny and using decoupage, applied them to the windows waving at me, etc.  I am, of course, at the helm with a bottle of wine as my traveling companion!  It is so creative and wonderful.  Love it. I will work on getting pics of it on the next blog.  There is a very slow internet process here.

Thank you all......the attendance at the party was overwhelming.  As you know, I was very flustered and anxious.  Your hugs, encouragement and love for me prevailed (and a bit of wine) and I hit the road this morning at 8:00 a.m.  My talk with Gail each morning occurred without fail as I was driving off....perfect!

I will work on getting pictures from the party on the next blog.

Take care all.
